The power of attorney in the United States can be obtained by visiting a Honduran consulate nearest your residence. You can also request it from a notary and carry out the process with them.
What is a Power of Attorney Used For?
The Power of Attorney in Honduras is a legal document through which a person (the “grantor”) gives authority and power to another person (the “attorney-in-fact” or “representative”) to act on their behalf and carry out certain legal procedures, actions, or specific tasks in Honduras. This document grants the representative the legal capacity to make decisions and take actions on behalf of the grantor, in situations where the grantor cannot be physically present or prefers to delegate their responsibilities.
The Power of Attorney can be used for a variety of purposes, such as managing legal, commercial, financial, or personal matters in Honduras. Some common examples of situations where a Power of Attorney might be used include:
- Buying or selling property.
- Representation in legal or judicial proceedings.
- Managing bank accounts.
- Collecting official documents.
- Carrying out procedures at government institutions.

Notarial Power of Attorney for Procedures
The requirements for a notarial power of attorney for procedures are as follows:
- Properly complete the power of attorney form.
- Submit the power of attorney with your valid passport or Honduran ID card. You must present the original and a copy.
- If another person presents the power of attorney, they must show their ID card and be over 21 years old.
- The exact name of the institution where the representative will appear must be stated in the Power of Attorney.
- Ensure that the power of attorney format you are using is suitable for the procedure you want to carry out.
- If the power of attorney is for a banking or financial institution, you must submit a photocopy of the page showing the account number and the name of the bank where the account is held.

- Complete the DS-3053 power of attorney form, notarize it, and send it along with a photocopy of your ID on both sides when requesting the minor’s passport.
- If one parent cannot be located for any reason, the passport application must be accompanied by the DS-5525 power of attorney form, completed with as much detail as possible. The Honduran Consulate may ask for additional documentation.
