Honduran Salvoconducto in the U.S.: Requirements and Fee

A Honduran salvoconducto (emergency travel document) is issued for an urgent return to Honduras when a Honduran citizen has no valid passport or has lost it. It is valid only for travel to Honduras. It does not replace a passport for other destinations or, by itself, permit return to the United States. This independent guide does not issue travel documents.

U.S. consular requirements and fee

The Honduran Embassy in the United States publishes a USD 10 fee and lists:

• Appointment confirmation.
• Honduran DNI or proof of DNI enrollment.
• One passport-size photograph.
• Expired passport or a copy of the lost passport. For a stolen passport, the original police report.

The service requires personal attendance and original documents. If you have no passport copy, no DNI or have never enrolled, explain that to the consulate before traveling to its office. Additional requirements for minors

• The child’s Honduran birth certificate.
• Valid DNI or passport of both parents.
• If one or both parents are absent, an accompanying adult over 21.
• Authenticated or apostilled authorization from the absent parent.
• A copy of the absent parent’s DNI or passport.

How to request the document

• Contact your consular office, explain the urgency and provide your planned departure date and route. Check its official contact and appointment system in the directory below.
• Request the service identified by the office and save the confirmation. Ask whether additional travel evidence is needed.
• Confirm the payment method and payee before buying a money order. The published consular fee is USD 10; travel and other services are separate expenses.
• Attend personally with original documents, your photograph and any minor’s supporting documents.
• Check the issued document’s personal details, dates and conditions. Confirm that the airline accepts it for your specific itinerary.

Validity, processing time and booking flights

Ask the issuing office how long the document will be valid and when it can issue it for your departure. The Embassy’s U.S. service page does not state a uniform validity period or processing time for all offices. Do not base your booking only on timelines published for consulates in other countries.

Have your planned itinerary available when contacting the office. Check the effect of flight changes, connections and the document’s expiry. For an imminent departure, explain the urgency through the office’s official channel. This website cannot expedite or guarantee issuance.

Connections and return travel to the United States

The authorized destination is Honduras. Before choosing a connection, ask the airline and transit-country authorities which travel documents are required. Do not assume that the salvoconducto permits transit or entry into a third country.

To leave Honduras again, you will need the applicable travel and admission documents. A salvoconducto is not evidence of permission to enter the United States. If you have an immigration case or questions about the consequences of departure, review your circumstances with an authorized professional before traveling.

Preparation by situation

• Adult returning urgently: prepare the listed identity and passport documents and ask about issuance, payment and airline acceptance.
• Minor traveling: collect birth and parental documents, and have the office review any absent-parent authorization and accompanying adult.
• Connecting flight or planned U.S. return: check transit requirements and separate return-entry documentation before booking.

Common questions

Can I fly with only my DNI or an expired passport?

Do not assume those documents alone allow boarding. For an urgent return without a valid passport, consult the consulate about a salvoconducto and confirm boarding requirements with the airline.

Is this a circulation permit or a permit to transport remains?

No. This guide covers the consular travel document for a Honduran person returning to Honduras. Circulation, cargo, transit and repatriation of remains involve separate procedures.
